The Introduction
Hey there everyone!
I hope you all are doing fine so as we proceeded to our next module we were this time given a place for research. So this time around what we had to do was that all of our batch was given a place for research which had to be done in groups of four to five people (and no we didn't had the privilege to be with our friends) so the learning outcome of our module was all about working with people who we don't know well enough and of course how to work in groups. This taught us many things which I will tell you later on but for now let's just focus on our exciting visit!
Yes apparently I like museums and specially the ones who deal with history. So I had the perfect opportunity to explore the place.
So this place holds a lot of importance in the city as it was the official residence of our first Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. He lived here for sixteen long years before going to sleep forever, also his daughter Ms. Indira Gandhi kind of lived here why kind of because she didnt stay here for long as she went to London to marry this gentleman called Mr. Feroze Khan. So she used to stay here for few days and go again.
The museum is all about the history of the Nehru-Gandhi family, whatever happened in their personal as well as professional and personal lives of the members of the family.
The name of the Teen Murti Bhawan was derived from the teen meaning three in Hindi. The teen murti(three statues) look like this.
These three statues that you see here are the statues of three great soldiers who were from the princely states of Hyderabad State, Jodhpur State and Mysore State served present day Gaza Strip, Palestine and Israel during World War I. It is in the south direction of the Rashtrapati Bhawan and hence the name of the mansion. It was also called flagstaff mansion.
So now some interesting facts about this Bhawan-
-> Area of this campus is 44.74Acres.
-> Architect of the mansion is a British architect Robert Tor Russel.
-> Foundation stone was laid down on 23 March 1929 and completed in 1930.
-> Plinth Area of Teen Murti House is 5128.80 sq.Mts.
-> Constructed as Official Residence of Commander-In-Chief of British Indian Army.
-> First occupant of the place is Field Marshal Sir William Birdwood.
-> Last Commander-In-Chief who lived there was General Sir Roy Bucher.
-> Jawaharlal Nehru occupied this house as Prime Minister in August 1948.
-> Nehru lived here before his death on 27 MAY 1964.
-> It was converted into a memorial on November 1964 on his 75th Birthday.
-> Museum Timings is from 9 am to 5:30 pm
-> Weekly holiday is every Monday.
Okay so people my upcoming blogs are all going to focus on all kinds of aspects of this very informative place, regarding its architecture, visuals of inside of the museum, its surroundings like the Nehru Planetarium, The Library and the not so famous Kushk Mahal.
